Strike Shadow 48V vs 60V vs 72V — Which One Is Right for You?
The Strike Shadow lineup has become one of the most popular electric dirt bikes in the Houston area — and for good reason. But the 48V, 60V SX, and 72V SV2 are three very different machines. Get this choice wrong and you'll either spend more than you need to or end up under-powered for what you want to do. This guide breaks every spec down so you can walk in and buy with confidence. And when you're ready — we have all three here in Houston with no dealer fees, no doc fees, and no hidden charges.

What Does More Voltage Actually Mean?
Voltage isn't just a number on a spec sheet. It directly determines how much power the motor can deliver, how fast the bike accelerates, and how efficiently the battery performs under load. Here's what each tier means in real-world riding terms.

The Real Differences That Matter — Beyond the Spec Sheet
The Wheel Size Upgrade Is Bigger Than You Think
The jump from the 48V to the 60V SX isn't just about more power. The wheel size change — from 14"/12" to 17"/14" — fundamentally changes how the bike feels and handles. Smaller wheels are lighter and easier to throw around at low speeds, which makes the 48V genuinely good for younger or smaller riders learning on grass or packed dirt. But at anything above 30 mph, the smaller wheels struggle with stability, especially over bumps, roots, and loose dirt.
The 60V SX's full-size 17" front wheel rolls over obstacles better, tracks straighter under hard acceleration, and gives you meaningfully more confidence at speed. If you're an adult and you're on the fence between 48V and 60V, the wheel size alone closes the argument. Go 60V.
The FastAce Suspension on the 72V Is a Genuine Game Changer
Both the 48V and 60V use standard hydraulic suspension — it's acceptable for casual riding but it will let you know when the terrain gets rough. The 72V SV2's FastAce suspension front and rear is a different category of component. FastAce is a respected suspension brand in the mid-range motocross market, and having it on both ends of the bike transforms how the SV2 handles whoops, choppy braking bumps, and off-camber sections.
If you're planning on riding anything technical — trails with roots, hard-pack tracks, sandy or rocky terrain common around the Houston area — the suspension upgrade on the 72V is worth a significant portion of the $800 price difference over the 60V by itself.
Battery Capacity: More Voltage Doesn't Always Mean More Range
This surprises a lot of buyers: the 60V SX actually has a larger battery in watt-hours (1,620Wh) than the 72V SV2 (1,800Wh) despite the lower voltage — because the 60V pack has a bigger Ah rating (27Ah vs 25Ah). The practical difference in range is small. Both will get you 1–2 hours of aggressive riding. But the 72V's higher power draw means heavier throttle use burns through that capacity faster. If maximum ride time per charge is your priority, the 60V SX is the most efficient option in the lineup.
Who Shouldn't Buy the 72V
The 72V SV2 is genuinely too much bike in the wrong hands. If the rider is a younger teen still learning throttle control, or if the primary use is light backyard riding, the 72V's instant torque at 7,000W peak is a liability, not an asset. The 48V exists for exactly that use case — and it does the job well. Don't buy more voltage than your rider's skills justify.
Why Houston Riders Should Think About This Differently
The Houston area riding environment is specific. SE Texas terrain is mostly flat with sandy or clay-heavy soil, and summer heat is brutal. The electric motor actually handles Houston heat better than carbureted gas engines — no vapor lock, no fuel evaporation, no re-jetting for humidity. That's a real advantage. For Pearland, League City, Webster, Friendswood, and Clear Lake riders who have access to private land, trails near the Brazos bottom, or local recreational areas — the 60V SX hits the best balance of speed, battery efficiency, and cost for typical Texas riding conditions. For track riders or anyone doing more aggressive terrain, step up to the 72V.
Which Strike Shadow Should You Buy? — Every Scenario Covered
Match your situation to one of these. Still not sure? Call us at 832-752-9062 and we'll walk you through it in under 5 minutes.
Ages 10–14, learning to ride, backyard or light trail use. You want something fun but manageable — not something that sends them into a fence at full throttle. The smaller wheels and 3,000W motor keep things forgiving.
You're an adult, you've ridden before or you're picking it up quickly, and you want something that actually rips. The 60V SX at 41–44 mph is plenty fast for trails and open land around Houston. Full-size wheels, hydraulic suspension, real performance.
Older teen who already has some riding experience, wants more speed and a bike that feels serious. The 60V SX is usually the right call — it's fast enough to be exciting without the raw power of the 72V that requires more experience to manage well.
You've ridden gas dirt bikes before, you're comfortable at speed, and you want the FastAce suspension that can actually handle whoops and rough terrain properly. The 72V SV2 is built for you — especially the suspension upgrade, which is worth most of the premium on its own.
If your priority is maximizing how long you can ride per charge — light trail riding, casual use, or you have a long stretch of property — the 60V SX's 1,620Wh battery with a 5,000W motor gives the best efficiency ratio in the lineup. It draws less than the 72V but carries more energy than the 48V.
Common scenario: younger kid and older kid sharing, or buying two bikes at different tiers. Pair the 48V for the younger rider and the 60V SX for the older one. Both machines use the same platform so maintenance and parts knowledge transfers between them.
